In this course, you will learn a step-by-step method for drawing practically anything! You will learn to visually break down any subject into its basic shapes and depict it with proper perspective from any angle.
This method of analytical sketching has been passed down for centuries through the great European academies and is an efficient and effective drawing method.
By the end of this class, you will have greatly increased your confidence, accuracy and speed in line drawing and will have the tools to accurately sketch objects and living things from observation or your imagination!

Strong fundamentals in traditional drawing, painting and sculpting are the foundations to create amazing artwork.
This level is about solidifying the fundamentals, getting a refresher on the most important art principles, and learning tricks to create realistic drawing and paintings.

Note: This class will be offered onsite and is not recorded. Please arrive on time to your class.
Term: Winter 2025
Class Timings: Saturdays from 5 PM to 8 PM, Eastern Savings Time (EST or UTC-5h)
Date of first class: January 11th
Duration: 10 weeks
Please note that our classes times are listed as EST (GMT-5) but that starting on Sunday, March 9th, 2025, all class times will go into EDT (GMT-4)
It should be noted that students should set aside a minimum of 3 hours per week to complete assignments for this class. Students may even require a bit more time (4-5 hours per week) depending on how quickly they can work through assignments.

Prerequisites
Skill requirements
To enroll in this course you should have:
- A foundation in the basics of realistic drawing, such as basic perspective, proportions and shading.
- Ideally completed our Foundations of Drawing class or have equivalent practice/experience.

Language and age requirements
You should have at least intermediate level French to take this class. Please be advised that there could be artistic nudity in our classes. Students should be 14 years old to enroll.
This class will be offered in French. However, Andre speaks English as well and will be more than happy to answer your questions in either Language.
Required Materials
Material List:
- Eraser (any brand)
- Kneadable eraser (any brand)
- Mechanical eraser pen (Tombow recommended)
- Pencil sharpener (any brand)
- Sketching Pencils: 4H, HB, 4B (any brand)
- Colored Pencils: 1 white and 1 black (KOH-I-NOOR or Prismacolor recommended)
- Fabriano Spiral Sketchbook 9"x12" or similar
- Strathmore Bristol Vellum Paper Pad 11"x14" or similar
- A drawing board (26” minimum)
- Bull clips
Optional materials:
- Canson Tracing Paper Pad, 11"x14”
- Brown Craft Paper Sheets 18"x14"
- A blending stump
Course Outline
*Please note that the following outline is subject to change slightly at the teacher's discretion.
Week 1: Introduction. Learn the best ways to use your materials and develop your basic hand drawing skills through a series of exercises.
Week 2: Drawing basic shapes and forms. Understand how to represent the basic forms with which all objects are built.
Week 3: Learn how to capture organic forms & contours.
Week 4: Develop proficiency drawing geometric forms in perspective. Understand how to represent light and shadow in perspective.
Week 5: Learn how to efficiently break down complex subjects into basic shapes so you can sketch them quickly and accurately.
Week 6: Understand how to apply the analytical approach to human anatomy.
Week 7: Learn to apply your analytical sketching skills to the human figure so you can sketch people with proper form, depth and perspective.
Week 8: Learn to add tones to your line drawings to bring them to life.
Week 9: Understand how to use your analytical sketching skills to accurately represent realistic environments
Week 10: Learn to apply your analytical drawing skills to generate interesting new designs and take your visual creativity to the next level.
