In this workshop, we will explore sketching and watercolour techniques for live figure drawing. Watercolour is a dynamic and practical medium that can be incredibly fun to use for both painting and sketching the human form. While it can seem intimidating, Camila will guide you through approachable methods, presenting her tools and materials to make the most of this expressive medium, without overcomplicating the process.
Students will experiment with various watercolour techniques, with a strong focus on live drawing practice. You'll learn how watercolor behaves on both wet and dry paper, how to embrace “happy accidents” without losing control, and how to let the medium speak for itself to create vibrant, lifelike images.
Topics covered include drawing and painting using watercolors, figure and portrait work, rendering flesh tones, negative painting, building volume, edges, and applying basic color theory. The goal is to bring three-dimensionality to a flat surface and breathe life into your figure drawings.
We'll start by working from photo references using a simple three-value system, then gradually move into full-color work, and then live model sessions. The class includes demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and personalized guidance. By the end of the workshop, you'll gain confidence and develop solid results painting live figures using watercolors.
