Michael Solovyev is an art director, illustrator, fine art painter and designer of architecture, theater sets and costumes. He has 12 years of professional experience, has won numerous awards and his fine artwork is featured in public and private collections in 10 different countries. For nearly a decade he's been transmitting his classical European art education to up-and-coming artists through teaching engagements in Canada and in his native country, Russia.
Urban Sketching in Perspective 2
Week 1 - Review and enhance your understanding of perspective. Become proficient measuring exact angles from real structures so you can effectively depict proportions when constructing complex objects
Week 2 - Gain proficiency in drawing shadow shapes with precision so you can accurately portray volume and depth in your sketches. Acquire the skills required to create the best balance between line and tone so you can create urban landscapes that possess convincing levels of light, depth and detail.
Week 3 - Become proficient in drawing complex and detailed linear images using markers. Learn how to apply the principles of composition to create vibrant silhouette studies and understand how to effectively select and enhance the main subject of the composition.
Weeks 4 and 5 - Acquire the skills required to realistically represent distances, scales and depth and learn how to choose the most expressive angles and viewpoints so you can create a futuristic mega-city composition in 3-point perspective with complex lighting.
Week 6 - Gain proficiency in adding vehicles, traffic signs, arches, columns and other architectural elements in correct perspective so you can enrich your drawing and create a more dynamic and detailed urban landscape.
Week 7 - Field trip: master complex angles while sketching urban scenes from life so you can create vibrant urban landscapes with precision while building the reference library for your final project.
Weeks 8 to 10 - Learn how to choose the style and techniques that will best fit your illustrations. Apply all that you have learned to create a detailed, vibrant and believable drawing of a futuristic version of Montreal, incorporating both real and whimsical elements in proper perspective.

Do you possess basic knowledge of perspective but would like to strengthen your skills so you can accurately construct any urban scene? Concept artists, illustrators, architects and comic book artists require a strong foundation in constructive drawing and advanced perspective knowledge to depict urban architecture in their designs. In this advanced urban sketching course you will strengthen your fundamentals and gain mastery in perspective drawing so you can create realistic urban environment sketches from both life and imagination.
You will become proficient in analyzing urban scenes and drawing precise shadow shapes so you can create urban landscapes that look believable with an appropriate level of detail. Throughout the course, you will strengthen your composition skills so you can construct lively silhouette studies and make the main subject of your composition prominent and impactful. You will gain the skills required to draw complex structures and authentically depict depth and scale so you can realistically construct vivid urban settings in 3-point perspective.
In addition, you will learn how to effectively incorporate architectural elements such as arches and columns as well as vehicles and signage into your illustrations so your urban landscapes look dynamic and life-like. Furthermore, your proficiency in measuring complex angles from life will increase and you will become adept at choosing the best viewpoint to showcase the mood of your illustration. Finally you will combine all that you have learned to create a convincing illustration of futuristic Montreal complete with real as well as imaginary elements in proper perspective with accurate levels of depth and detail.
By the end of this course you will have become highly proficient in perspective drawing. Your mastery of angles, composition and proportion will have increased, enabling you to illustrate any urban landscape, real or imagined, in a realistic and believable manner in addition to giving you new pieces for your portfolio.
This is a level 3 class designed for people who have already taken our Urban Sketching in Perspective course or have some basic knowledge of perspective.
Language requirements: You need at least intermediate level English to take this class (the teacher will use many visual examples and there will usually be students in the class who speak French and can help you if you don't understand something).
