The Art of Manga
Are you interested in drawing manga-style art but don’t know where to start? Do you wish to create your own high-quality manga but lack the skills and know-how? In this course, taught by the incredibly popular Andrea Tamme, you will learn manga-style drawing and a simplified approach to manga-style storytelling as you create your own mini-manga from start to finish.
Over 10-weeks, through a series of live manga drawing demonstrations and assignments, you will learn how to develop stylized characters and dramatic story structures and dialogues that are typical of this genre. You will learn to create easy-to-follow artwork and add eye-catching inking, lettering, and colouring to enhance the mood and setting of your mini-comic. Finally, you will learn additional tips and tricks to further boost your manga’s visual appeal and take it to the next level so it immediately attracts, engages, and evokes the desired response from the reader.
By the end of this course, you will have learned all the basic tools and techniques required to generate your own manga comic from start to finish. You will have built up the necessary skills to further refine your manga drawing and make your mini-comic an exciting and riveting pageturner that is hard to put down.
This course is well suited for artists that have a basic understanding of anatomy and perspective, and wish to explore manga-style art as a new avenue.

Level 2Level 2
Second level classes are for students who have a good foundation in the basics of realistic drawing (such as perspective, proportion, shading and colour theory) and already know how to use Photoshop, but need more in-depth knowledge to create professional and complex artwork.
This level is about expanding knowledge, strengthening skills, and transitioning to the world of concept art and illustration.

Class Timings: Tuesdays from 3 PM to 6 PM, Eastern Standard Time (EST or UTC-5h)
Date of first class: January 12th
Duration: 10 weeks
If you are unable to attend the class during the times listed above, you will still have access to video recordings of the class lectures and will still receive personalized feedback from your instructor.
This course is well suited for artists that have a basic understanding of anatomy and perspective, and possess some experience making comics already
Language requirements: You need at least an intermediate level English to take this class.
*Note that the students at Syn Studio are mostly all adults and you should be 16 years or older to take any classes here.
You need a tablet/laptop which has Photoshop or any other drawing program installed.
Tech Requirements for Attending Syn Studio Online Classes
- A strong uninterrupted broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE) connection with a minimum 600kbps bandwidth (up/down).
- A Laptop/Desktop computer equipped with a single core processor (at least 1 GHZ processing speed) or a smartphone/tablet with equivalent processing capabilities
- Good speakers/earphones to listen to the classes
- Browser - IE7+, Safari 5+, Firefox, Chrome
- Operating System - Windows XP, Mac OS 10.6, Linux distro based on 3.0 kernel, Android 5.0, iOS 10

Below is the general outline. The detailed outline is currently being developed. Classes will include lectures/presentations, live manga drawing demonstrations and 1-on-1 feedback on your work. The class pace will be adjusted based on the speed of the students.
The following topics will be covered:
A thorough understanding of the manga style of making comics and the differences between manga and traditional style of comic making.
Becoming proficient in the drawing style inherent to manga and understanding the various genres and subgenres typical to this form of storytelling.
Establishing a story, world, and themes for your manga style comic, and creating settings and characters that work within that world.
Combining all you have learned to create your own one or two-page manga comic
