Weeks 1 and 2 - Train your eye to effectively separate colour and value so you can effectively control the viewer’s sense of form and depth within a full colour illustration.
Weeks 3 and 4 - Gain an in-depth understanding of how warm lighting affects the local colour of an object across a variety of colours, textures and materials so you can create the correct mood and atmosphere for your painting.
Weeks 5 and 6 - Understand how to paint with cool and diffuse lighting. Then compare that with warm and direct lighting so you can better understand colour harmonies. Become proficient in painting with light to make your paintings appear more luminous and captivating.
Weeks 7 and 8 - Prepare for your final illustration project, which will involve painting a horse in a fantasy environment, by first studying horse anatomy. Professional illustrators do lots research and study to ensure a good final result. Become proficient in researching and producing many good thumbnail sketches so you can explore multiple ideas and design a powerful image.
Weeks 9 and 10 - Become proficient in the circular rainbow theory of colours and explore colour options for your final illustration through various colour studies. Learn to apply realistic lighting effects and finishing touches to your digital artwork to produce visual magic and gain a worthy addition to your portfolio.

If you've taken our Digital Painting course or are already relatively advanced and comfortable painting digitally then this course is for you. It will boost your understanding of value, colour, lighting, textures, materials, anatomy and illustration so you can create jaw-dropping digital illustrations and concept art.
In this 2-part course you will learn ways to increase your proficiency painting in Photoshop and the techniques that will give you an edge so you can create stunning images. Note that this course is about mastering art fundamentals in a digital medium – not about the software itself. You should already know all about using lock-layer transparency, gradients, selections, adjustment layers, etc., so now we can focus on taking your digital illustration skills to the next level.
By the end of this course you will have skills and knowledge required to be a top-notch digital painter. Your understanding of colour and lighting will have reached a higher level providing you with the ability to create images that will raise the quality of your portfolio.
*Laptop and tablet required
This is a class designed for people who have already taken our Digital Painting course or are aware of advanced photoshop techniques and wish to master art fundamentals in a digital medium.
You also need to have a laptop with Photoshop installed and a tablet sensitive to pen pressure (such as a Wacom tablet). Or you need a tablet-computer with Photoshop installed that is sensitive to pen pressure (such as the Cintiq Companion). And you need to have some basic skills in Photoshop and be comfortable drawing and painting in Photoshop and know how to use layers and the basic tools (all things you can learn quickly with free tutorials online).
Language requirements: You need at least intermediate level English to take this class (the teacher will use many visual examples and there will usually be students in the class who speak French and can help you if you don't understand something)
