    Teacher Information

    André-Lang Huynh is a senior concept artist at WB Games Montreal on an unannounced AAA game in the DC Universe. During his career here, he has worked on games such as Injustice 2, No Way Out and multiple unannounced AAA titles. In addition to this, he has also been working on his popular personal project titled “Mech Nuggets” where he experiments with spaceship and mech design.

    Course Outline

    Week 1 - Learn to sculpt in the Oculus Medium software and quickly become efficient in navigating the UI and using the default brushes so you can effectively sculpt simple forms in VR.

    Week 2 - Gain the skills required to apply materials and paint in VR so you can enhance the realism of your subject.

    Weeks 3-5 - Become proficient in creating unique and detailed 3D concepts from a defined library of pre-modeled parts and learn how to create and use your custom stamps so you can efficiently generate multiple visual solutions and variations for your concept.

    Week 6 - Gain proficiency in the essential VR polishing tools in Oculus Medium so you can use them to polish and refine your concept thereby increasing the viewer’s sense of realism.

    Week 7 - Become proficient in organic sculpting in VR so you can accurately represent organic forms and the natural world. Learn the essential tools, techniques and methods required to design and model immersive, jaw-dropping environments in VR.

    Weeks 8,9 and 10 - Acquire the skills required to render your final kitbashed concept using Keyshot and gain proficiency in painting over your rendered concept so it appears stunning and impressive.

In this advanced targeted industry training session, senior concept artist André-Lang Huynh will guide you through the exciting world of Virtual Reality where you will learn an powerful new concept art pipeline that will enhance your creativity, increase your efficiency and give you an edge over other concept artists.

    This is a highly limited industry training session, involving demonstrations, lectures, assignments and projects. It is targeted at advanced concept art professionals. During this course, you will learn how to apply a revolutionary new concept art pipeline to create unique 3D concepts in VR. To begin, you will become proficient in the various Oculus Medium software controls so you can sculpt simple forms. Stamps are a quick and easy way to add predefined 3D models as shapes and quickly explore different variations so you can choose the shapes that best fit your concept. You will gain expertise in sketching with Oculus Medium’s stamps so you can add a variety of different 3D shapes and structures to your concept and explore multiple visual solutions in a fast and efficient manner.

    Kitbashing is a powerful creative method used by concept artists to quickly create 3D concepts for films and games by mixing, matching and repurposing multiple pre-modeled parts from existing commercial kits. You will gain proficiency in creating unique 3D concepts from a defined library of commercial pieces using a powerful kitbashing technique. You will learn how to create and use your own custom stamps to add a variety of elaborate 3D shapes that enhances the visual appeal of your concept. Additionally, you will gain the knowledge required to polish your 3D model pieces in VR so they appear highly detailed and well-refined. Finally, you will learn how to use Keyshot to render your 3D concept and then become proficient in painting over your image to add the finishing touches so your concept art piece is eye-catching and impactful.

    By the end of this course, you will have learned a new, unique and powerful concept art pipeline that will increase your efficiency, enhance your workflow and provide you with a sizeable edge over your competition. Your will have increased your knowledge of concepting in VR, giving you the ability to create mind blowing 3D concepts for games and movies. Furthermore you will also have an impressive new 3D concept art portfolio piece, created in VR, that you can be proud of.


    This exclusive, highly limited industry training session is designed for professional concept artists. However, advanced students with good knowledge of Digital Painting, some skill in design and preferably some knowledge of 3D modelling will also benefit from this advanced training.

    You also need to have a laptop with the following technical specifications:

    • Equivalent of an Intel Core i5-4590 processor
    • At least 8 GB of RAM
    • Two USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI 1.3 port*
    • Windows 7 (with Service Pack 1) or newer

    * - the headset requires a "direct output architecture" for a computer's HDMI 1.3 port. In many notebooks with a discrete gaming GPU, the external video output is actually connected to the integrated GPU; that setup won't work with the Rift. Please make absolutely sure that your laptop is compatible and powerful enough for the Oculus Rift.
