    Teacher Information

    Pierre Raveneau is a senior concept artist at Ubisoft Montreal where he is working on an unannounced project. Prior to this, Pierre has worked for companies like Gameloft Madrid and Ubisoft Halifax on games such as Gods of Rome, Asphalt Xtreme, Tom Clancy’s ShadowBreak and other unannounced projects.  In addition to this, Pierre has also worked on several freelance projects for companies such as Square Enix, Applibot, Cryptozoic Entertainment, Alderac and Fantasy Flight Games, among others.

    Course Outline

    Through lectures, live demonstrations, assignments and in class exercises, you will become proficient in various concept design processes used by top concept artists today.

    Below is the general outline. The detailed 10 week course outline will be communicated to students at a later date.

    Part 1

    Strengthen your concept art fundamentals and gain expertise in a variety of basic concept design methods. Learn how to effectively develop your design direction so you can create concepts that meet and exceed client demands.

    Part 2

    Become proficient in advanced concept design processes and techniques so you can have a well-rounded design toolkit. Learn to enhance your creativity and build expertise navigating around all manner of visual design roadblocks you may encounter so you can avoid common pitfalls and create high quality concept designs.

    Part 3

    Learn how to effectively identify the concept design methods that best suit your style and needs so you can create a model sheet of some of your best character or vehicle designs that can developed into stunningly-well designed concepts for your portfolio.

    Do you possess a decent understanding of concept art fundamentals but don’t yet have the advanced skills and knowledge required to create professional-level concept designs? Do you wish to learn the methods and techniques that top concept artists use to boost their creativity and create superbly well-designed concept art pieces? A concept design skillset incorporating multiple powerful design techniques is important for aspiring concept artists to become successful in their career. In this exclusive course, senior AAA Ubisoft concept artist Pierre Raveneau will teach you his favourite concept design processes so you can level up and become a professional concept designer.

    Learning the design processes taught in this class will boost your competence and enable you to solve any visual design problem so you can adapt easily to any client demand, deliver high quality concept art and have a successful concept art career. You will become proficient in brainstorming multiple solutions for any given problem and learn how to choose the best one so you can efficiently navigate any design roadblocks. You will gain proficiency in several new concept art tools and techniques that will strengthen your concept design repertoire, enhance your creativity and increase your productivity so you can execute complex concept art projects with ease. Finally you will learn to identify the processes that best fit you from the ones covered in class. You will then use your most efficient methods to create a character or vehicle model sheets that can be developed into professional level concept art for your portfolio.

    By the end of this course, you will have learned several new concept design processes that will improve your design thinking, creativity and productivity so you can become a successful AAA concept artist. You will have developed the knowledge as well as the ability to create stunning concept art pieces from scratch. Furthermore you will have created character or vehicle model sheets that can be developed into well designed professional-level concepts for your portfolio.

    Pre-requisite

    This is an advanced course designed for people who have already taken either our Intro to Concept Art or Digital Painting courses or have equivalent experience.

    You need to have a laptop with Photoshop installed and a tablet sensitive to pen pressure (such as a Wacom tablet). Or you need a tablet-computer with Photoshop installed that is sensitive to pen pressure (such as the Cintiq Companion).

    Language requirements: You need at least intermediate level English to take this class (the teacher is bilingual and can explain concepts and give feedback in both languages).
